Leysandre takes the night watch at the lifeguard tower every summer. At eight she lights the lantern, as always, and hangs it on the rail. Tonight she has written something on the glass with a white pencil, small enough that only someone very close could read it.
Episode 2
A swimmer is out past the buoys, too far, too late. She blows the whistle. He waves and keeps going toward the rocks where nobody swims. She grabs the rescue board and goes in after him.
Episode 3
On the rocks he explains that he is not in trouble. He is a marine biologist counting the sea turtles that come in at night, and he has watched her lantern from the water every evening for a month. He never dared to swim close enough to read it.
Episode 4
They count turtles together until the moon is high. Eleven, twelve, thirteen. He tells her he leaves tomorrow morning, his research is over. She tells him the lantern goes out at midnight, rules of the tower.
Episode 5
At a quarter to midnight he swims back to the tower. She watches him climb the steps, slowly, until he is close enough to read the glass. He reads it twice.
Episode 6
